Introduction to Working with Children

I would like to thank you immensely for giving me an opportunity to participate in your program called “Introduction to Working with Children”.  I really enjoyed meeting the people who attended and listening to your guest speaker from Northern Futures Inc.  He was truly inspirational with his professionalism and presentation to the group. I am now getting the support and guidance from Northern Futures to help me with my job networking which has been a struggle being a single parent.  This program has helped me confront my barriers and opened up more opportunities to do volunteer work with playgroup at Catherine McAuley School.  I greatly appreciate all the hard work you have done to support our local community.''

ELY (Early Learning Years)

I have been attending the ELY program this year with my daughter. I feel we have both gained a great deal from the program. The co-ordinator Jo does a fantastic job and is a credit to ECCP. My daughter has improved many practical skills and our relationship has also improved as a result of our attendance.  The ELY program is one I would highly recommend to other parents.

I was a stay at home parent looking to start planning for entering the workforce, not wanting to return to retail I sought the help of a career counsellor. I was set to become a swimming instructor for babies, but to begin my new journey I needed my child safe environments  certificate. I was told about this short course that offered free creche` for my 2 daughters and was close to my home and all for free. To my surprise right under my very nose, as we have been attending programs with Elizabeth Community Connections for over a year.
I had a wonderful time learning new tools to help my own parenting as well as working with children. At the end of the second day I had changed my mind and was not going to be an instructor anymore, but still no closer to what else though. Almost every other day that followed with each different guest speaker, Jo's passion and insight, my fellow classmates point's of view changed my mind and grew ever so much more unclear of my path. I would go home at the end of the day thinking "yep, that's it!" it would all change the very next time I stepped foot back in that classroom.
I had been previously pointed in the direction of a diploma in early childhood education and care and thought that it was for a career set out for childcare. It became clear that study will be  in my immediate future and with guest speakers from Australian Workplace Training (AWT) and Tafe going into more detail about their courses and what they entail, with the help of Jo and Alecia from AWT, I signed up for that diploma. knowing that it will be an essential thing to have to work with children in any capacity in the future. HIPPY was a visitor to our class to and spoke of the benefits of becoming a HIPPY Home Tutor, which I had not known before being a HIPPY participant.
One of our projects within the course was to run a playgroup session, with the help of my group we planned and successfully made it through the session and all the children had fun. Which gave me the confidence later to start volunteering with ECC at the little discoveries playgroup, it was great insight and practice a planning a program.
My time with the course was amazing and would do it again and again if I could, friendships were created and community networking relationships were formed.
A few months following the course I was well into studying externally my family situation changed and there was an opportunity to become a HIPPY Home Tutor and I eagerly, but nervously applied. It had been 5 years since I last had a job.I got a position and I am loving it. I gained a passion for early years learning from Jo and her team and guest speakers, that I can never thank them enough for. I am now studying Certificate IV in Community Services, while still chipping away at my Diploma and about to start my placement at Swallowcliffe preschool to attain that qualification.

It all started there with Introduction to working with children and families, Thankyou. Sam Mullins
